Letter From Our President

Dear NMCA Members:

We just returned from the TCA 54th Annual Professional Growth and Conference in Austin, TX. We experienced so many great workshops. I always look forward to this conference. Not only is it an opportunity to gain knowledge from the workshops, it is also an opportunity to network with colleagues, and friends, and enjoy the venue. Also, I love to visit the exhibit hall and collect stress balls for my students and clients at every conference. My students always know when I have been to a conference, because they notice the new stress balls that I bring back.

I started the conference with a day-long Advocacy training lead by Joe Gagen, CEO of Texas CASA, an organization that works with volunteers across Texas to advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system. John Shirley did an outstanding job as well encouraging us to get involved in advocating for the counseling profession and for the students and clients that we see. I left the conference feeling fired up! We will be setting up a meeting soon to share with you how all of us can work together to advocate for the counseling profession, clients, and the students we see.

This year was particularly special to me. I received the Rhosine Fleming Outstanding Middle School Counselor of the year award from the Texas School Counselor Association. I was so blessed to have family, NMCA board members, and friends there to show support. Thanks for coming your support and encouragement means so much.

Get Ready! Get Ready! Mark your calendar for the NMCA Winter Conference on Friday, January 28, 2010. You don’t want to miss this conference. You will have the opportunity to earn 6 CEUs. Sign up on our website: http://northernmetroca.org/
